“Active” Management Defined:
In contrast to the predominant more passive “Buy and Hold” approach; “Active” management is more Tactical and Dynamic reacting to changing Market trends and conditions.  Active Management helps to minimize “Systematic Risk” to a portfolio such as “sizeable” Bear Markets.  However with “Active” management the Frequency of these “periodic adjustments” (hereinafter referred to as “Trades”) vary significantly.  Therefore, ActivePortfolioCoach.com categorizes these “frequencies” into three different levels and provides specific strategies and services for two of the three levels:  Low Frequency, Medium Frequency and High Frequency listed below.

“Portfolio” Defined:
Two Kinds of Portfolio Risk:  Modern portfolio theory (which is “Religiously” promoted by our Industry) states that the risk for individual stock returns has two components:
Systematic Risk - These are market risks that”CANNOT BE DIVERSIFIED AWAY”.  Interest rates, recessions, wars and “Secular Bear Markets” (i.e. 2000-2002, 2007-2008) are examples of systematic risks.
Unsystematic Risk- Also known as "specific risk", this risk is specific to individual stocks and “can be diversified away”.
My Observations and Opinions After 45+ Years Observing and 30 plus years of participating in this Industry is that; Appropriate Strategies for Systematic Risk, which by definition “CANNOT BE DIVERSIFIED AWAY”, have been severely de-emphasized by most of those in our Industry providing “packaged Investment Products” (i.e. Mutual Funds, Variable Annuities, 401K Plans, etc.) if not “Aggressively Attacked”.

“Coach” Defined:
The ActivePortfolioCoach.com service uses the terminology “Coach” not in the sense that we are trying to “teach” technical analysis or even “involve” you in the analysis and monitoring process.  It is not an educational, interactive or online Chat room, rather it’s a “Turn-Key” service that operates like the Coach in a football game that is simply calling in the plays and you as the Quarterback are either running them or “calling an audible”.
